NOTICE OF UPCOMING WATER CHLORINATION
FOR THE VILLAGE OF BRULE, NE
January 14, 2026
Dear Village of Brule Resident,
Starting next week, we will begin adding chlorine to our community water system. This is a routine procedure to disinfect the water and ensure it remains safe and free from bacteria. The chlorination process will take about 30 days.
What you should expect:
- Taste and Odor: You may notice a slight chlorine smell or taste in your tap water. This is normal, and the water remains safe for drinking, cooking, and bathing.
- Discoloration: Chlorine can sometimes react with minerals like iron in the pipes, causing temporary black or reddish-brown discoloration. If this happens, run your cold water tap for a few minutes until it clears.
Special Precautions:
- Fish and Reptiles: Chlorine can be harmful to aquatic life. Owners of fish tanks or reptiles should use standard treatments to remove chlorine before adding tap water to their tanks.
- Health Concerns: If you are on kidney dialysis or have other specific medical conditions, please consult your healthcare provider regarding the use of chlorinated water.
- Sensitive Users: If you are sensitive to the taste or smell of chlorine, you can use a water filter or let a pitcher of water sit in the refrigerator overnight to allow the chlorine to dissipate.
