Fire & Rescue

The Brule Fire Department is currently made up of 18 volunteer firefighters and 1 emergency medical technician (EMT). These individuals provide service both locally and for mutual aid. Two of our firefighters are taking EMT classes to provide additional support for our community. We are grateful for the support and care our community receives from these wonderful volunteers. County-wide ambulance and EMT service is provided by Keith County.

In an emergency, dial 911. Brule’s fire chief is Lonnie Olson and the assistant chief is Phil Cole. The fire department holds meetings the first and third Mondays of the month at the Fire Hall, 519 East 3rd Street. For non-emergency inquiries feel free to send an email to brulefd@atcjet.net, and don’t hesitate to thank them for their service and dedication!

Visit & Relax

Brule, Nebraska, is a small rural village, located nine miles west of Ogallala on Highway 30 and Interstate 80.

Brule, Nebraska, was established in 1886, when Major Isaac Barton and his wife, Elizabeth, purchased a quarter section of land they considered the “garden spot of the county” in the “Great American Desert.” Soon a lumberyard and store were built, and the community began to thrive. Rather than naming this community for themselves, the Barton’s chose to name the town after 5,000 Brule Sioux Indians who camped there in 1872.
